On 23 February, the INTELLIGENT project organised an online workshop dedicated to Intellectual Property Rights (IPR), hosted by InoSens in its role as Dissemination, Communication and Exploitation Lead.
The workshop brought together 19 participants from across the consortium, ensuring at least one representative from each partner organisation. Delivered by Maja Fišić (InoSens), the session was organised as part of the project’s Capacity Building activities, with the objective of strengthening partners’ understanding of IP management in preparation for upcoming collaborative exploitation activities.
In line with Horizon Europe’s impact logic, linking results to outcomes and long-term impact, positioned Intellectual Property as a strategic asset rather than a formal requirement. Participants revisited key IP and IPR concepts, Horizon Europe rules on ownership and exploitation, and the importance of clear collaborative IP management, particularly in cases of jointly generated results.
Special attention was given to balancing open-source commitments with appropriate protection mechanisms, especially considering that INTELLIGENT develops IP-intensive innovations such as P2P trading software, AI/ML models and blockchain components. The discussion also covered the identification and management of Key Exploitable Results and the use of the internal IP Note procedure as a formal trigger for ownership clarification and protection decisions.
Beyond knowledge transfer, the workshop marked an important preparatory step towards the collaborative development of the first version of the INTELLIGENT Business Plan. By building a shared understanding of ownership structures, protection strategies and exploitation pathways, the consortium is strengthening its capacity to position INTELLIGENT results as transferable, investable and scalable solutions, with clear and credible pathways towards market entry and long-term impact in Europe’s evolving energy markets.
