U2DEMO

U2DEMO is a Horizon Europe Innovation Action developing open‑source, interoperable tools that enable citizens, prosumers, energy communities, and system operators to participate in fair and scalable peer‑to‑peer (P2P) energy sharing. The project supports the transition toward decentralized energy systems by lowering participation barriers, enhancing transparency, and promoting community‑driven market engagement.

Building on a suite of open-source, technology‑neutral platforms, U2DEMO advances P2P trading and energy‑sharing mechanisms, enabling the integration of distributed energy resources such as solar PV, batteries, electric vehicles, heat pumps, and demand‑response assets. The project strengthens interoperability across community tools and grid systems while providing secure digital data exchange to facilitate trustworthy, decentralized market operations and improved grid coordination.

At user level, U2DEMO introduces decision‑support and flexibility‑oriented services that help households and energy communities optimize consumption, increase self‑consumption, and participate more effectively in local markets. All developed solutions are released as open‑source components, ensuring long‑term accessibility, broad replication potential, and opportunities for further innovation and commercial deployment.

The solutions are validated across four diverse European pilot sites, each representing distinct governance models and socio‑technical contexts. These demonstrations are supported by social, economic, and regulatory analysis and ongoing stakeholder engagement, ensuring that the tools address real community needs and can be confidently scaled across Europe.
